This month at the LRC

No, nothing from me in the April 2023 Literary Review of Canada.  But I find Jean Barman one of the most consistently interesting historians in the country, so I read with interest its review of her recent book British Columbia in the Balance 1846-1871  -- her terminal date being BC's accession to confederation. Among her points: how settler colonialism really took off once British colonialism ceded to Canadian control.

Also, Paul Bennett's review of a Halifax radio host's memoir is a pleasingly detailed survey of talkshow hosts, shock jocks, and other radio stars across the country over many decades. Also Trudeau's party, Diefenbaker's ascent, diplomatic memoirs, a maybe-too-complacent look at Ontario's looming invasion of the Ring of Fire, the history and culture of dumplings, Mi'kmaw entrepreneurs, Canadian women on stage and screen.  Much to consider.
