On his website, Ottawa journalist Dale Smith, an Albertan who knows (and bemoans the follies of) western politics, reflects on the disastrous self-destruction of the NDP government in B.C. -- and his "side note" is worth reading too.
Still in office?
On a side note, maybe the fact that Doerkson was a caucus-selected leader who didn’t implode the party and won an election is a sign that maybe, just maybe, we might see the light and return to caucus-selected leaders in this country? (Yeah, I know, I’m dreaming. But still).
If caucuses selected leaders, someone as self-centered and short-sighted as Danielle Smith would never have been a provincial premier of Alberta. Maybe Eby, too. But one could say that about a lot of egomaniacal self-promoters whose deluded followers have been able to buy a party leadership and then luck their way through a general election.
