History of democracy

Well, whatever happens, at least we can stop looking at FiveThirtyEight.com (link corrected) for another three and a half years.

The other night I saw a little of an HBO program called "When We All Vote," from the non-profit civic action org of the same name. Every few minutes, another celebrity supporter wrapped up the argument for voting with a cheery, reassuring "We're Americans. We're good at this."

Which seemed to confirm that American exceptionalism is alive and well... and largely delusional. The rest of the democratic world gapes in pity and amazement at the politization of polling administration, the gerrymandering, the voter suppression, the lineups, the hacked voting machines, the unbelievable expense, the chaotic lack of consistency and fairness.  But "we're good at this!"
