History of the Parliamentary Press Gallery

Press Gallery, c1866-1916
The Parliament Buildings on the hill in Ottawa opened in 18661886, as the new home to the government of the pre-confederation Province of Canada. The political journalists, many of whom had been covering the same parliament in its previous homes for years, came along. So the Parliament Hill press gallery counts itself a year older than confederation, and is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year.

Being journalists, they didn't keep their own records very well, and so their 150th anniversary website is vague about when the Press Gallery organization was actually founded, who was its first president, etc.  But they have the website.
