Lynton "Red" Wilson has been a great benefactor to Canadian history. He's supported the foundation Historica and endowed a chair in the History Department at McMaster, and now he's supporting a Centre for Canadian History at McMaster.
Can't do anything but applaud that. But can't help but think how, in browsing about for interesting news on and about Canadian history, this blog consistently finds so much going on outside the university and so little inside. Where are the startling articles and monographs, the big transformative books, the emerging authorities? Universities are awash in money, but the important work all seems to be elsewhere.
Am I wrong about this?
