When The Beaver was seeking nominations for "the Worst Canadian" last year, I wanted to offer them Max Aitkin, Lord Beaverbrook, the dubious financier turned English lord. But someone else got to him before me, and I had to look elsewhere.
Now Greg Marchildon, who knows enough economics and law to vet thoroughly Beaverbrook's contracts and accounts, reviews a couple of books on the man. It's in the Literary Review of Canada for October, just out.
Okay, I'm happy to promote the Literary Review of Canada; I've got an essay in next month's issue you are all going to want to read. But I'd flag Marchildon anyway.
