Douglas Hunter's God's Mercies: Rivalry, Betrayal, and the Dream of Discovery is among the nominees announced today for the Governor General's Award in non-fiction. Winners to be announced November 18.
A good nomination, all the more pleasing here since I know the author looks at this blog from time to time. Congratulations, Douglas Hunter.
Not a banner year for literary takes on Canadian history, perhaps; the Writers' Trust nominations (results Nov 17) included no history titles, and I could see their point. But on the CBC website, Marion Botsford Fraser specifically notes how well written God's Mercies is -- always the right reason for a GG nominee.
