I didn't know Joan Finnigan, but I admired the vigor of her work on the history of the Ottawa Valley: all the digging about, all the oral history interviewing, all the publications. I always thought her The Best Damn Fiddler from Kaladar to Calabogie was one of the best damn book titles in Canadian historical writing.
Joan Finnigan died recently, aged eighty.
