On the stands: great new issue of The Beaver with lots of provocative suggestions about who is "The Worst Canadian." Chris Hannah... Who the hell? Or Pierre Trudeau? Or the Kamloops Kid? Something here to offend almost anyone -- I like that in a history magazine.

After looking at yet another youth-hating cover (Why are all kids cheats?, why do they dress like "skanks"? etc., etc.) my kids insisted we give up our subscription to the lively new rightwing tabloid-style Macleans. So I have not seen the current issue. But since I write legal history a little (and here too), I'm much taken with the furor over its headline "Lawyers are Rats."
