I've known Ramsay Cook slightly for years, even got to collaborate with him on The Illustrated History of Canada. He's always struck me as the smartest guy in the room and one of the nicest too. And I like to see a professional historian with an interest in art and culture and an appreciation for literature.
So though I haven't read it yet, the book I'm looking forward to is his new The Teeth of Time, a memoir of his forty year friendship with Pierre Elliott Trudeau. His theme seems to be the relationship of an intellectual turned politician and an intellectual acutely engaged with politics. Teeth of Time, just out from McGill-Queen's Press.
