History of military costume art


Charlevoix salutes the life and work of Eugene Leliepvre, official military artist of the French army since 1951 and also the pre-eminent illustrator of the French colonial military in North America.  As Charlevoix says:
son œuvre a alimenté d'une façon inestimable l'image qu'on se fait aujourd'hui de la Nouvelle-France. Vous avez tous croisé et apprécié de ses illustrations, j'en suis certain.
True, that. I'd seen these forever and never had a clue who Leliepvre was. At his death last month, Leliepvre was 106.
