Leadership politics

Right at the end of CBC News's "At Issue" panel of last week, after fourteen minutes pondering the resignation of Stéphane Dion and the leadership race that is about to begin (bankrupting and distracting the opposition party for most of a year), they are just wrapping up when Peter Mansbridge asks, as if he does not really expect an answer, "Why don't they just let the caucus choose the leader?" Andrew Coyne responds enthusiastically, Allan Gregg scoffs, and they fade to black.

Everyone declares it is unthinkable. Sure. But it's there, underground, percolating....
