puzzling article here on how the academic regulations in the United States that control how research on human subjects must be conducted have made oral history -- and most forms of interviewing, it seems -- practically impossible. The article suggests the offending regs are being changed; the comments suggest not so.
Is this really a thing oral historians deal with? I thought the real ethical problem was when oral historians gave promises of confidentiality, and then
institutional authorities overrode them, because global war on terrorism.
