von Heyking on Baldwin and LaFontaine

John von Heyking, political scientist at the University of Lethbridge, launches a series on friendship in politics with the mid 19th century alliance of Robert Baldwin and Louis-Hyppolite LaFontaine.
Through friendship, they were able to weather the political storms of the 1830s and '40s. They led the effort to adopt, by 1849, a system of self-rule in Canada. It set out that leadership is accountable to the legislative assembly and removable from office by "His Majesty's representatives at his pleasure."
Those were the days....

Also he's using the Troy Media distribution service -- previously unknown to me -- to get his historical commentaries into the media. Worth a look?
