Prize watch: Shaughnessy Cohen Prize to Richard Gwyn's John A.

details here.

Update, April 27:   But here, in the Dorchester Review, are Phillip Buckner's reservations about the work:
[t]here does not appear to be all that much that is new about Macdonald’s political career. He covers more or less the same ground as Donald Creighton’s two-volume study written fifty years ago and Gwyn himself admits that he “was standing on Creighton’s shoulders.” Gwyn does add some important detail on occasion, much of it drawn from historians whose work postdates Creighton’s, but he pretty well ignores the sources that do not fit his preconceptions and all too frequently he falls back on colourful stereotypes.
