Historian heroes at the movies

At Active History, Alan MacEachern offers a lively take on what it signifies that spy hero Jack Ryan is at heart a professor of history.

He also runs through a whole list of popular fiction and action movie heroes who are history professors (in the way Superman is a journalist, sometimes).  I was sorry he neglected a different story of historian action -- Denys Arcand's Decline of the American Empire, about the sex lives of the History Department of the Université de Montreal, but it's a lively read.
