McLennan at the DCB

Today's featured life at Dictionary of Canadian Biography Online is John S. McLennan (1853-1939), the historian of Louisbourg (also an industrialist, a publisher, and a senator). Quite a life it is too, nicely surveyed by A.J.B. Johnston.
"He opposed the creation of any monument that emphasized the reason for the fortress’s destruction, writing 'I think we want to avoid the suggestion that any work we do marks the victory of the British over the French.' He hoped that a preserved Louisbourg would promote a sense of Canadian identity."
