Refighting 1914


Daniel Francis has the first notable history blogpost of 2014 by drawing our attention to the war over The Great War launched by the British Conservatives' house blowhard Michael Gove. Daniel has got all the links.

Update:  British historian and teacher Richard Brown, a prolific history blogger at Looking at History, draws my attention to his own consideration of this controversy on his blog:
I am reminded of Nikita Khrushchev’s comment that ‘Historians are dangerous and capable of turning everything upside down. They have to be watched.’  Undoubtedly Michael Gove would agree. 
Which recalls Tony Judt's joke about Soviet authority: "The future is easy to predict. It is the past we keep having problems with."
