Book Notes: Here comes the fall season

Lyn Cadence, hardworking promotions director at prairie publisher Fifth House, recently sent along a couple of their new books, including this one, Quiet Revolution West: The Rebirth of Metis Nationalism by John Weinstein. Weinstein has been a political advisor to Metis leaders since the 1970s. His memoir/history underlines the extraordinary complexity and difficulty of First Nations politics.

Spy historian Wesley Wark was reviewing the other day Peter Edwards's Delusion, the biography of early Canadian spy (!) Thomas Beach aka Henri Le Caron. Edwards, a Toronto Star reporter, doesn't seem to grab much attention, but he's been producing some interesting books in recent years, including one on the Donnelly murders.
